A Clever Fox Never Shows His Teeth

Born out of necessity during his time in Othard, Mordred began wearing the mask he was initially given as a gift as a form of armor when he could not be seen close to breaking, or where he does not want to be recognized as himself. He is seen primarily wearing it around areas like Thanalan or Ishgard. Although it's not a completely uncommon sight to those that know him, it's something unexpected to those who see him much less frequently.

Ian Vinthas is one of Mordred's oldest disguises. Created when he was thirteen and looking to find out what it was like to live in the Brume, 'Ian' is a name derived from one of his middle names.Ian Vinthas frequented the Brume from the 4th Year of the Seventh Umbral Era to the summer of the 2nd Year of the Seventh Astral Era. He then disappeared, and like many Brume children, he was presumed dead by those that had come to know him.Ian Vinthas recently showed up as a butler to a minor noble lord in Ishgard before disappearing once again with a fine piece of stolen art after a rather large party. There were many things strange with that party, however, beginning with the guests that actually showed to the wait staff, to the butler himself. Really, was it a surprise that it was a heist?---If you are an Ishgardian noble: Who is Ian Vinthas? A brume rat? Why should you care?If you are a Brume native: There's a chance you've run into Ian in the past. Just like any other Brume child. He had slippery fingers and a quick wit, but he was rather insubordinate. If you knew him, you might fear that he's dead, or be certain of it. Rumors aside. If you are a Ishgardian Knight who works in the Brume: You might have some recollection of a wild child hanging about for a while. He was just as scrawny and starved as the rest of the Brume children, however, so he didn't really stick out to you.And for everyone: It is not common knowledge that Ian Vinthas is an alias of Mordred's. Less than a handful of people know this. If you would like to work on ties that your character may have to this identity, I am more than happy to do so!

After the death of his elder brother, Gawain, at the Steps of Faith, Mordred was thrust into the position of heir to House Evaine. As the second son, he was unprepared for this role. Even moreso in the wake of the end of the Dragonsong War and the truth that it unleashed on Ishgard. At some point, he became the target of an unknown Ishgardian House. Hired assassins broke into his bedroom and nearly killed him. With his safety in Ishgard in jeopardy, he was sent to join the Eorzean Alliance to bring an end to the Garlean Empire. This was seen as the lesser of two evils since he was not strong enough to defend himself at home.Over the course of two and a half turns, Mordred fought and bled with the soldiers of Eorzea. His path brought him from Dalmasca, through Yanxia, Doma, and into the Steppe before he was sent to join the Ilsabard Contingent in Garlemald during the Final Days.____As an Ishgardian Noble: You might have heard rumors of the circumstances around the second son of Viscount Torben being sent to war. Maybe you have speculation on which House is at fault or you doubt the validity of the Viscount's official statement regarding his son's absence. As a War Veteran of Either Campaign: You might have seen a young boy on the battlefield. As an elezen, he did not hit his growth until he was long on his way home. Mordred now might be nearly unrecognizable compared to the whelp seen on the battlefield.
